Natural Remedies for PMS Symptoms

January 24, 2015

It’s estimated that 75 percent of women suffer from some form of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). This means that there are millions of women dealing with headaches, bloating, cramps, depression or other symptoms every day. But there is no reason to suffer! With some simple, natural remedies and lifestyle changes, you can keep the worst of your symptoms at bay. Here are just some of the all-natural ways you can kick the PMS blues to the curb.

1. Exercise

While hitting the gym may feel like the last thing you want to do while suffering from cramps, it may actually help you! Moderate exercise is proven to eliminate your PMS pains. If you start getting active a few times a week, you’ll really start to notice a difference when your period comes around. Nothing beats cramps better than a quick walk!

2. De-Stress

Being stressed out can worsen your PMS symptoms. Be sure you are getting lots of rest and relaxation when PMS hits. Get plenty of sleep and try to do something soothing in order to relax. Whether it’s acupuncture or a bubble bath, do what feels right for you. Your body knows what it wants, you just have to tune in and listen.

3. Diet

Certain foods can worsen your PMS symptoms. When it’s that time of the month, try and cut down on:

– Refined flour

– Processed foods

– Caffeine

– Alcohol

– Salty foods

Instead, be sure you are eating three balanced meals a day with plenty of protein. Skipping a meal may worsen how you feel.

4. Vitamins

Some vitamins may also help with your PMS pains. There are a number of supplements that, when taken daily, will relieve your symptoms:

– Calcium Citrate – 600mg a day

– Evening Primrose Oil – 500mg twice a day

– Magnesium – 200mg a day

– A once daily multi vitamin

These are just some of the daily vitamins that can help you when it’s that time of the month. Be sure to speak with a physician if you have any more questions and which supplements may help you.

5. Herbal Treatments

All natural herbs are a great way at easing PMS. Here are just some of the supplements that may help you out when that time of the month rolls around:

– Chasteberry – Relieves painful menstruation and sore breasts

– Peppermint – Relieves bloating

– Black Cohosh – Relieves cramps

– St. John’s Wort – Relieves moodiness and depression
