What is a Mammography?

A mammography (also known as a mammogram) is an x-ray of breasts. They are a crucial prevention tool for early diagnosis of breast cancer, which will affect 1 in every 8 women during their lifetime, making it the second most common cancer in women.

At What Age Should You Start Getting Mammographies?

The American Cancer Society recommends getting yearly mammograms for women between the ages of 45 and 55, and every two years for women older than 55. Doing so can save lives, especially since many women could have cancer and not experience any symptoms during the earliest stages. Early detection is essential for a higher survival rate.

Even if you are doing regular breast self-exams, mammographies are still the best way to prevent cancer cells from spreading and catching you off-guard with an advanced cancer diagnosis.

What is Genius™ Mammography?

Traditional mammographies consist of getting undressed from the waist up and placing each breast on an X-ray plate. The breasts are then compressed with another X-ray plate to flatten them. This allows the machine to get a clearer picture of the inside of your breasts. While necessary for cancer screenings, the procedure is highly uncomfortable and only provides 2D images, which can be limiting whenever breast tissue overlaps. This often results in false alarms or even worse, a missed diagnosis.
