They will guide you through the steps you should take before becoming pregnant, to ensure that you and your baby are healthy. Our medical practitioners will also answer any questions you may have about fertility or discuss any pregnancy concerns.

Prenatal Care

A healthy pregnancy is key to a healthy baby. Once you are expecting, you should have early and regular prenatal care. Regular prenatal visits are essential for you and your baby. During these visits, your will receive:

– Early pregnancy confirmation and ultrasound
– Obstetrical Education
– In office fetal monitoring NST/BPP
– Vaccines
– Genetic counseling and testing

First Trimester: During your first trimester of pregnancy, you will generally meet with your physician or practitioner every four weeks. This visit will be done to check out the overall health of you and your baby. Your physician will measure the baby’s heart tones, size and growth. Special testing for certain genetic disorders or defects will also be offered.

Second Trimester: You will start having regular check-ups once or twice a month. These visits will monitor both you and your baby’s health and make sure everything is going smoothly with the pregnancy. During this stage of pregnancy, additional testing for generic disorders will be offered through laboratory testing and diagnostic ultrasounds for fetal growth. What’s most exciting is that you can finally discover the sex of the baby!  During the fetal growth ultrasound, around 18-20 weeks, the baby’s gender may be determined.

Third Trimester: You’re almost there! For your third trimester, you’ll be visiting with your physician and practitioners every week. They will be making sure you and the baby are doing well and that you’re on track to have a healthy and safe delivery.

Postpartum Care and Pelvic Floor Therapy

After your delivery, your body needs time to recuperate. Pregnancy changes your body, so it’s important you take extra care of yourself. At OB-GYN Women’s Centre, we provide comprehensive postpartum care for you and your baby.

The natural changes of both pregnancy and delivery impact your pelvic floor muscles and connective tissue, often causing discomfort and pain during or after delivery. Almost half of women experience pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy. Incidences of stress urinary incontinence during pregnancy affects up to 70 percent of women.

After delivery, the pressure from the baby coupled with hormonal changes can cause weakness of the pelvic floor muscle. This can cause annoying symptoms like stress urinary incontinence or fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, urinary frequency and pain during intercourse.

The good news is, we can help. We can easily treat both pregnancy and postpartum related symptoms with individualized treatment and home exercise programs. Our In-Office Pelvic Floor Treatment Program includes eight sessions that help strengthen your pelvic floor. During your private sessions held in our spa suite, a registered nurse will guide you through the treatment. Even better, this service is covered by all insurance companies and we are more than happy to check your benefits for this service.

Don’t let unwanted symptoms associated with pregnancy distract you from enjoying your new baby. Contact us today to learn more about our Pelvic Floor Treatment Program.
