Family Planning

If you are planning on becoming pregnant, congratulations! Being pregnant is truly an amazing experience. However, before you begin your journey to motherhood, it’s important you speak with an experienced medical professional. After all, being a healthy and informed mommy plays an important role in having a healthy baby.

If you are considering expanding your family, make sure you take the right steps. Meet with one of our caring team members at OB-GYN Women’s Centre of Lakewood Ranch. Our physicians will discuss your health history and any other medical conditions that could affect your pregnancy. They will guide you through the steps you should take before becoming pregnant, to ensure that you and your baby are healthy. Our medical practitioners will also answer any questions you may have about fertility or discuss any pregnancy concerns.

Prenatal Care

A healthy pregnancy is key to a healthy baby. Once you are expecting, you should have early and regular prenatal care. Regular prenatal visits are essential for you and your baby. During these visits, your will receive:

– Early pregnancy confirmation and ultrasound
– Obstetrical Education
– In-office fetal monitoring NST/BPP
– Vaccines
– Genetic counseling and testing

First Trimester: During your first trimester of pregnancy, you will generally meet with your physician or practitioner every four weeks. This visit will be done to check out the overall health of you and your baby. Your physician will measure the baby’s heart tones, size, and growth. Special testing for certain genetic disorders or defects will also be offered.

Second Trimester: You will start having regular check-ups once or twice a month. These visits will monitor both you and your baby’s health and make sure everything is going smoothly with the pregnancy. During this stage of pregnancy, additional testing for generic disorders will be offered through laboratory testing and diagnostic ultrasounds for fetal growth. What’s most exciting is that you can finally discover the sex of the baby!  During the fetal growth ultrasound, around 18-20 weeks, the baby’s gender may be determined.

Third Trimester: You’re almost there! For your third trimester, you’ll be visiting with your physician and practitioners every week. They will be making sure you and the baby are doing well and that you’re on track to have a healthy and safe delivery.
